This paper analyses whether there is a common thread in Danish Foreign and Security Policy. It does so by examining a number of parliamentary resolutions that has been the basis for the assignments for Danish armed forces abroad over the last period of years. These parliamentary resolutions span over a period from 2001, where terrorists attacked a number of targets in New York and Washington, and until today, where an emerging instability is seen between the Western and Eastern hemisphere.
The analysis is based on theory from the Copenhagen School in international politics and relations. Especially the Securitization process is relevant when it comes to the understanding of how the parliamentary process works. In the parliamentary resolutions, I will identify Speech Acts, and thereby show how these matches with the Referent Object. This paper will show that there is a common thread in Danish Foreign and Security Policy, and that the overarching objective is to ultimately secure the survival of a free and independent nation, which is formed by a number of values.
