The Danish Armed Forces have experienced an increase in younger officers seeking employment outside the military. Why is this and what can be done to counter this growing problem?
Based on this the following problem statement seems relevant:
The purpose of this thesis is to identify the motivation of the younger officer, in order to conclude whether the defense is able to meet this in the near future?
In order to answer the problem statement the thesis is divided into two major sections. Section one will, based on new motivation theory and theory of the creative class, determine the motivation profile of the younger officer. In section two the motivation profile will be compared to the Capacent Epinion report on causes for the younger officer to leave the Armed Forces in order to conclude if the report takes individual motivation into account.
The conclusion of the thesis is a demand for a new managerial style which appreciates the performance of the younger officer and leaves room for them to conduct independently leadership.
The question is, however, whether the Danish Armed Forces are ready for this change.
