Abstract
The subject of this thesis is strategic management – is it possible, and if so how, to effectively carry out strategic management in a complex and dynamic environment?
The theoretical standpoint of this thesis is taken from Mintzberg’s theory of emerging strategies which is analyzed and combined with theories of Johnson, Scholes & Whittington and Strategy Lab as well as the Strategizing approach. The result of this analysis if then tested on Defense Command Denmark, in order to show if the recommendations for strategic management can hold there own in real life.
In conclusion, strategic management is possible even in this environment. But careful consideration of the plan, pattern, position and perspective of the entire process including activation of emerging strategies and several demanding leadership commitments are necessary.
